Out Door Leadership Activity
Leadership On The RanchA one-day program for 4 to 40 people
This out door team building experience package can include round trip transportation from your hotel, and on site chuck wagon meals. Experienced ranch hands and a leadership trainer will guide your group through several fun and dynamic leadership development activities.
The Rancher
Dan Havens has spent his whole life working with horses--growing up on a farm in Pennsylvania, wrangling horses on Mountain Dude Ranches, and training horses for his family ranch in Westcliffe, Colorado. His horse sense is based on a lifetime of experience. After raising many horses of his own, Havens became interested in the Wild Horse and Burro Rescue Program. He has adopted and trained several wild mustangs for trail riding and ranch work. He served for fifteen years as a law enforcement officer in Colorado, where he implemented and led a mounted patrol unit, acted as a field training officer, and participated as a wildland firefighter.
The Ranch
Our ranch facility is approximately 30 minutes from down town Denver. Our larger facility is 20 minutes from Canon City.
The 1 Day Time LineThe trainer begins the day with an overview and the agenda for the day. The ranch owner gives a brief presentation on ranch safety. A demonstration of trust, leadership and working as a team is given using a horse and a round pen.
The horses my not pay attention, want to eat and may not obey.
The trainer will conduct a discussion about leading, guiding and getting cooperation. Team members then mount their horses and ride them through the obstacle course. The trainer then adds additional insights with respect to leadership, handling new or difficult employees etc.
Lunch
All team members then ride a trail outside the arena for an hour or so. Additional insights on leading, following and achieving a common goal are included. After the ride, a final group discussion takes place reviewing the challenges of getting cooperation, maintaining control, managing difficult and strong willed horses and other aspects of leadership as they relate to employees, new employees etc.
Camp Fire
A complete chuck wagon dinner may be included to end the day.
