The Ranch Challenge Program

A one-day program for 4 to 40 people

This one day program challenges participants to stretch beyond their comfort zones.

It is simply one of the most fun activities any group can have for building a better team.

With the help of an on site trainer and experienced ranch personnel your team members will attain
new insights into how they've been holding themselves back, how they can raise their own level of performance and what's really possible for them to achieve.

This out door team building experience package can include round trip transportation from your hotel, and on site chuck wagon meals.

The Rancher

Dan Havens has spent his whole life working with horses--growing up on a farm in Pennsylvania, wrangling horses on Mountain Dude Ranches, and training horses for his family ranch in Westcliffe, Colorado.

His horse sense is based on a lifetime of experience. After raising many horses of his own, Havens became interested in the Wild Horse and Burro Rescue Program. He has adopted and trained several wild mustangs for trail riding and ranch work.

He served for fifteen years as a law enforcement officer in Colorado, where he implemented and led a mounted patrol unit, acted as a field training officer, and participated as a wildland firefighter.

The Ranch

Our ranch facility is approximately 30 minutes from down town Denver.

Our larger facility is 20 minutes from Canon City.

The First Challenge

Out Door Team Challenge In Colorado
Your team will ride horses into an arena through an obstacle course while playing “musical bales.”

This is followed by an over all introduction and safety presentation.

Team members will get on their horses and walk through the obstacle coarse while the music is playing.

The horses will be saddled up and in the arena.

There are bales of hay in the middle and an obstacle coarse around the outer edge.

When the music stops, they are to get to a bale of hay, get off the horse, and sit down on the hay while keeping control of the horse.

The person who is left standing is out of the contest.

Then a bale of hay is taken out and the entire cycle is created again until there is one person standing.

A prize will be given to the winner.

The Branding Challenge Part I

Ranch Challenge in Denver for Teams
In this half day activity, your team will work together at cattle branding like they
did in the Old West!

The ranch manager gives a brief talk on safety.

Calves are put in a small arena.

The participants are taught how to rope using roping dummies.

Teams of 5 are formed.

Team leaders decide who will rope and run the branding iron.

Everyone ropes and brands the calves.

The Branding Challenge - Part II

An explanation of the history of branding is given. The trainer relates creative strategies for how companies use branding to market their products and services. Similarities and differences between branding calves and branding products and services are explored and discussed.

Participants create an individual or group brand and use markers or other art supplies to create it. They present to the group.

Camp Fire

The day ends around the camp fire with stories, insights and a round table discussion.

A complete chuck wagon dinner may be included.
